Self-serve display refrigerators are found in corner shops, supermarkets, Gas stations, company dining areas, and general food outlets as well as wholesale food stores for the convenience of both, customers and retailers. This convenience comes at a price as the energy consumption of these types of open refrigerators is very high. At night or when the shop is closed the opportunity to save power and Co2 emissions with refrigerator curtains is enormous. If the electricity purchased is from coal-fired power stations, the ecological impact is far greater than if the business purchases its electricity from a green power provider. Either way, saving electricity is beneficial to any business.  
During the summer months, the loss of cold air from the refrigerator unit is not so great if it is linked to the air-conditioning system - cold air is drawn from the front of the display unit to the rear and then into air ducts that take it into the air-conditioning distribution system. In the winter months, the heating costs eliminate any summer saving efforts. In any case, fitting curtains for nighttime use or use when the business is shut provides efficient savings all year round. A variety of curtains are available but the best option is one that contains small perforations to prevent condensation. These curtains are easily fitted on top or the front of the display case, a simple pull-down action is all it takes to create great energy savings.
